Accept - Restless and Live review

After Accept’s resurgence after their 2010 release “Blood of the Nations” they have gone from strength to strength. While there has been live DVD’s and bonus material since then “Restless and Live – Blind Rage – Live in Europe 2015” is the bands first proper live release since Mark Tornillo joined the band. This also marks the debut release with Christopher Williams on drums.

There are various packages and different formats. There is a DVD/Blu-ray and audio release. Please note this review is just of the audio (though I’m sure the concert film is awesome!)

“Restless and Live” captures a mammoth 27 live tracks predominantly from their performance at the “Bang you head!!! Festival in 2015. It’s a marathon set covering the bands whole career. There is a massive chunk of newer material from the three latest albums which themselves have become classics. Tracks such as “Dark Side of my heart” “Dying Breed” and “Stampede” deep cuts like “Midnight Runner” and “Son of a bitch” and then of course the classics like “London Leather Boys”, “Metal Heart” and the band anthem “Balls to the wall”. What’s great is you get this massive collection of songs and they all melt together and fit. I’ve always described Accept to people who weren’t familiar with them as the perfect mixture of Judas Priest and Ac/Dc, if Ac/Dc just went for it and made a metal album Accept is what you would get and it rings true with this album. The band captures the spirit of Metal’s musical technicalities and the fun of rock and roll in equal measure.

As we all know a new front man can make or break a band and after three great studio albums this release solidifies Mark Tornillo as the Accept vocalist for here and now. The Udo Dirkschneider years are classic and no one’s saying otherwise but we all know another reunion wouldn’t of A) been as successful or B) lasted as long. This live release show the new era of Accept is here to stay and may they reign.
